A word from our Field Director

(W. Eric Briscoe)

Most of us never encounter Jesus in such a dramatic fashion as the Apostle Paul. One day, without any lights, voices, or great fanfare, Jesus simply meets us on the road and forever changes our path. And just as Paul was called to carry the name of Jesus, we also have been called to carry His name to whomever He places in our path and wherever that path may lead. God could have chosen the rocks and trees to advance the Gospel message, but He didn't - He chose us! With all our bumps and bruises, cracks and flaws, we are the messengers to a dark and dying world.  It's exciting to be an ambassador for Christ.  Why not consider joining with us as we go out into the highways and hedges to "Present Christ By All Means Everywhere." We would love to have you pray about this possibility.

HOW SHALL THEY BELIEVE?
Christ saw the multitudes as sheep without a shepherd, and being moved with compassion, He began teaching them. The early Church went everywhere preaching the word. Philip, the evangelist, traveled from town to town in Judea and Samaria preaching the Gospel. The apostle Paul stood daily in the market place of Athens proclaiming Jesus and the resurrection. Christ taught that He is the only Savior of lost mankind. He said, "No-one comes to the Father but by me." Compelled by His love, the Christians evangelized the known world. Today, as  multitudes are dying without Christ and without hope, the Lord of the Harvest calls us to be involved in evangelizing the whole world.  OAC staff are involved.  Our staff are located in over 21 countries around the world, working with local churches, other mission boards and Christians of many different denominations to know Christ and make Him known.

For over 100 years, we have attempted to faithfully follow Christ's command to Go into all the world and preach the Gospel; to Hindus and Muslims in Indian villages; to children in the inner-city of Philadelphia, to students in Jamaican public high school; to folks on their way to work in the Boston subways; to Catholics in Brazilian plazas; to Indians in central Paraguay.  The message of Christ is being preached publicly to thousands every week by OAC staff and ministry workers. You can be part of this type of dynamic front-line ministry as well.  Read on to find out more.

SHORT-TERM INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
We can custom-make a time of ministry to help you fulfill personal goals or educational internship requirements.  The time with us would consist of 8-hour days in which you would actively pursue direct contact with people.  For educational requirements, we can dovetail your experience with us so it will reflect specific training related to your major.  Daily activities can involve preparation for ministry whether it is in the area of evangelism, children's clubs, tract distribution or one-on-one spiritual counseling. We run programs in the USA and beyond for periods ranging from a week to a year, you choose the extent of time to suit your specific goals. Some of your assumptions about people may be challenged as you work with Christians from different backgrounds. You will share the joys and frustrations of life outside the realm of your normal routine.  God has used this time of short-term ministry to mature, encourage and forever change many individuals who have taken advantage of this opportunity through OAC. Click here to read some of their testimonies.

You can work alongside full-time evangelists who not only have the experience needed for dynamic outreach, but the desire to disciple you personally in this often neglected area of spiritual gifting. All our open-air outreach ministry includes a training component so you will learn to share your faith more effectively in a variety of contexts as instruction takes place step-by-step.  A portion of your time with us can also include support ministries.

You will always be under the direct supervision of our local missionary workers and also have opportunity to be evaluated and receive valuable personal feedback to help enhance and multiply your personal potential of service.

If you are considering a career in missions, this is a great way to start! If you want to be more effective in your local church, this experience will give you tools which will be used your entire lifetime. If you need to fulfill a practicum, internship or summer missions trip requirement, OAC short-term ministry is perfect.
